The Art of Hands

A Reflective catalogue for The National Gallery - London, UK.

There's a debate among the art community over which part of the body is more difficult to master; the hands, or the face. Artists do not just capture the emotion of a scene within the face; they channel the expressions through their placement of hands.

...the hands themselves virtually speak. Or is it not the case that we use them to demand, promise, summon, dismiss, threaten, entreat, show aversion and fear, question and deny? "

- QUINTILIAN
One of my subjects on exchange explored symbolism within the National Gallery in London, UK. I produced a catalogue capturing the location and posture of hands within renaissance paintings, to generate awareness, reflection and discussion on the symbolism of hands within London's most famous art gallery.

Gods Edition, Christ Edition.

Each edition focuses on a different subject matter of the gallery; Christ Edition contains religious paintings depicting Christianity, while Gods Edition does so with Greek gods. This form of modular design creates potential for a series of publications where uncontaminated context invites deeper introspection. The design of the book itself is kept ubiquitous, each spread featuring a single traced interpretation of a piece of art. The front cover was particularly fun to design, as it depicts the entire collection of artwork within the book.
